We do blue/green deployments and have two batches of servers with one batch normally turned off. We have a deployment script that starts up offline web server instances, deploys codes updates to them, “pre-warms” the content management system, rotates active instances in the load balancers and finally turns off server instances with the previous code release. In that final step the script needs to be able to enable alerts on the servers newly brought online and disable alerts on the servers that are about to be turned off. Without that, we end up getting alerts on servers we know have gone offline and not monitoring servers that are in production. We’re using a web UI testing framework called Selenium setup on a staging server that literally starts up a web browser, emulates a user logging into the Stackify web site, navigating to the “servers” page and clicking the necessary links and buttons to turn alerts on and off. Any changes made to the HTML or CSS on your web site could break the “test” and even now it doesn’t work 100% of the time. It would be very helpful to be able to change that setting via API.
